Sustainability Teams

Sustaingineering UBC is a student engineering design team that designs, develops and applies sustainable energy solutions for developing communities. Our goal is to create powering solutions to take on the grand global challenge of climate change and to improve the quality of life of the people living in these communities.

Third Quadrant Design aims to support the design, education and adoption of high performance buildings and green infrastructure. We compete in the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon (SD), an international collegiate competition that challenges teams to design and build energy efficient and innovative buildings. This team was founded at the end of 2019, and in the 2020 SD Design challenge Third Quadrant Design took first place in our urban single family division. Our team offers members huge learning opportunities in the green building sector through our interdisciplinary integrated building design process, industry lunch and learn sessions, training in softwares such as Revit, OneClick, Therm, AutoCAD and HERS, and upcoming real life construction opportunities. UBC WasteNauts is a solution-driven transdisciplinary design team that encompasses sustainability in engineering design and principles of a circular economy. Our goal is to radically minimize waste and apply knowledge from all fields to transform that waste into a valuable resource. Our projects are driven by the coolest and most cutting-edge innovations that abide by the three pillars of sustainability. We provide hands-on experience with power tools, materials testing, and additive manufacturing. Our team consists of multiple sub-teams working on a wide range of projects at any given time, so chances are we will have something that appeals to everyone. We also provide unparalleled opportunity for professional development, including the chance to pitch your own project ideas and lead your own sub-teams within one term!
